Richmond Engagement Session | Christa + Rob

Christa and Rob are without a doubt one of my favorite couples. They are joyful, silly, fun, and madly in love with each other. Their cuteness is overwhelming and their love for each other makes my heart so happy! Their engagement session last Fall was absolutely stunning. We started at the VA State Capitol with soft colors and formal outfits. Then we made our way to Belle Isle while they changed into the most perfect Fall outfits! The shoot was complete with golden sunshine over the river and a colorful sunset while walking over the bridge. It was a beautiful evening for two beautiful souls. I can’t wait to share their recent wedding pictures based in Richmond with a church ceremony and Monument Avenue portraits!

Richmond Engagement Session | Sarah + Matthew

Welcome to one of my favorite engagement sessions EVER. Sarah and Matthew decided to have the ultimate Richmond photo shoot in four awesome locations. We started with the formal and romantic look at the VA State Capitol, then they changed into the coolest outfits for two very meaningful places to them. We stopped outside of the Berkeley Hotel and then walked over to the fountain where Matthew proposed! I loved the way he just scooped her up and spun her around- so cute!! For our last location, we made it to Libby Hill Park at the perfect time for some champagne popping and golden hour kisses. Everything about their engagement session was just so dreamy!! I adore these two and their love for each other. Sarah and Matthew tied the knot last weekend at Amber Grove and I can’t wait to share their beautiful day on the blog next week!

D.C. Engagement Session | Sarah+Danny

MY BEST FRIEND IS GETTING MARRIED!!!! Sarah is one of my most long-term friends- we have known each other since 5th grade when we met at a chorus concert. We became friends in middle school and that was the beginning of a friendship that has meant so much to me. Friends come and go, especially through high school, college, AND your 20’s when life can be messy and confusing… but not this chick. We have aways been and will always be friends that truly love each other through all of life’s ups and downs.

My heart was exploding with joy and I couldn’t help myself from crying when I got the call that Danny proposed!!! These two have been together for EIGHT years now! They have been through so much together, they have accomplished so many things; both individually and as a couple, and I have watched them grow into an amazing relationship. I couldn’t be more thrilled for them as they officially enter their wedding week! I’ll need some waterproof mascara and a box of tissues because this is going to be quite the emotional day!

Sarah and Danny, I wish you both a lifetime of unconditional love, support, laughter, joy, and so many blessings. Your friendship means the world to me and I am so thankful I get to be a part of your lives. Taking your engagement pictures was a true gift to me and I will always adore this memory! I love you both so much and I can’t wait to celebrate YOU on your big day!

Springtime Brown’s Island Engagement Session | Mackenzie + Derrik

One of my favorite locations for an engagement session is Brown’s Island because it gives you the fresh blooms in Spring, the water, all the different bridges, a beautiful field, river rocks over looking the sunset, and more! I knew this would be the perfect spot for MacKenzie and Derrik since they were coming from out of town to take their engagement pictures. Turns out it was just in time for those pretty cherry blossoms, too!

This was my first time meeting MacKenzie and Derrik in person and we instantly connected. We had SO much fun walking around and getting to know each other better. They’re one of those couples you could just talk to for over an hour and then realize you haven’t even picked up your camera yet. MacKenzie is so sweet and I love the way Derrik makes her laugh. But you’ll also notice the way he looks at her in the pictures below and it’ll just make your heart melt! After spending just a few moments together, I knew they were adorably crazy about each other. They can be silly and laugh at each other, but they also nail the whole romantic gazing in each others eyes look. I love that MacKenzie wanted to be “more them” and chose a casual outfit with her favorite type of shoes- flip flops! All I can really wish for in an engagement session is for the couple to be completely themselves in every way and I think these pictures totally bring that out.

After leaving this shoot, I felt even more excited for their wedding day coming up in June at The Barns of Kanak! I can sense that it’s going to be a crazy fun wedding and we’re going to get some crazy good pictures! 🙂

Libby Hill Engagement Session | Melinda + Tom

Melinda and Tom are getting married SO SOON and I seriously can’t wait!!! I grew up in the same neighborhood as Melinda and we cheered together in middle school. When she contacted me to be her wedding photographer, I was shocked and so excited to hear from her! It’s always so much fun to reconnect with an old friend, but it’s an honor when you’re asked to capture one of the biggest days of their lives. Their engagement session is just a sneak peek of how stunning their wedding portraits are going to be. Libby Hill was the perfect spot for these two as the sun set over the Richmond skyline. Between Melinda’s model face and the way Tom looks into her eyes, I knew these pictures were going to be amazing. Just see for yourself!

RVA Engagement Session | Maggie+Zack

Warning, you are about to see some SERIOUSLY stunning engagement pictures of these two! Maggie and Zack are too cute, so much fun, and of course, madly in love! I can’t wait for their wedding in October! This session couldn’t have been any more perfect… warm weather, sunshine, a major golden glow, and a beautiful sunset overlooking the city! Just wait until you see the shots on the river rocks and in the dreamy field, OH, and their outfit change, the silhouettes… okay maybe just ALL OF IT!

Mentoring Meets Real Engagement Session

The first week of 2018 started with an amazing one-on-one mentoring session with Hannah Shinholser Photography. As soon as I met Hannah and got to know more about herself and her business, I knew she was totally invested. I could sense her determination and passion for photography and the people that come with it. I love getting to know my clients before jumping into the lesson plan. This allows us to get comfortable and really dig deep into the heart of the business. Hannah is so good at what she does and her work is stunning! I can already see business growth and another level of confidence shining through her since we met for the mentoring day.

My larger mentoring packages include a mini styled portrait session of choice. Hannah wanted to practice with a couple and asked for a location that represented her business. Luckily, the barn that I chose was one I have used for a previous mentoring shoot and it fit her personality and brand so well. I always want to make sure I am providing details for my clients that are customized to their business needs, not mine!

I love that my mentees have differences from me and my style, but still appreciate learning from me. I also found that adding a little bit of my own style encouraged Hannah to try something new. She soon stepped out of her comfort zone, and enjoyed it! As photographers, we should constantly push ourselves to step outside of our branding box and spice things up every once in a while! Hannah had the opportunity to try a couple of new techniques and she totally ran with it… that’s what these practice photoshoots are for after all! With a mix of our brands coming together, we had so much fun shooting side by side! Hannah is SO beautiful and I’m obsessed with her headshots, which shares her love for horses, her adorable style, and stunning features! See my favorites below!

Following the headshots, we had the most perfect and adorable couple modeling for us this day. The best part is that they had just gotten engaged over Christmas time and we were able to capture their first professional photos ever, along with their actual engagement shoot!! How special and awesome is that!? Plus we ended the evening with a slight sunset glow along the horizon through the trees, and we were so pumped about it! I loved working with this sweet couple, my amazing mentee, and the vendors who helped out! Just you wait until you see this fun-loving, romantic session- cue the heart eyes!!!

Surprise Proposal at ECU!

I’ve been waiting too long to share this special day on the blog! Morgan and I had this ECU graduation session planned for a long time. Just a few days before I was going to meet her, I got a (secret) phone call from Morgan’s soon-to-be sister-in-law, Jenna. She informed me that Morgan’s boyfriend, Alex, was planning to propose at the end of the graduation session!!! Naturally, I freaked out with excitement and couldn’t wait for the big moment! Jenna and I came up with a solid plan and we were ready for the mission! 🙂

When the session/engagement day arrived, I met up with Morgan just like any other graduation session would start. I was introduced to some family members and Alex, who “just wanted to come along” for the session. Little did she know, they were all there for the big surprise proposal… but, I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

This was easily one of the best moments I was asked to be a part of through my business. I mean seriously, I love having a role in major life celebrations, and this was a BIG one. There’s nothing like seeing love explode right in front of your eyes and seeing that moment being shared with the people who love them the most. It was incredible and yes, I literally cried. In front of everyone.

Thank you, Morgan and Alex, for allowing me to be a part of this time of graduating at ECU and getting engaged to the love of your life. This is the most exciting time of your life, and I hope you enjoy every moment of it! CONGRATULATIONS, wishing you all the love and blessings in your future!!

Wilmington Couples Session

Austin and Christian are SO in love that I can’t stand it! I love watching these two grow together in so many different ways. I met Austin while working in Cape Hatteras, NC a few summers back. She has the sweetest soul and the kindest heart! I met Christian when he started visiting Austin throughout the summer during her internship. They were too cute together and it just made my heart happy!! I just LOVE love, obviously… 🙂 When Austin was graduating from East Carolina, she asked for me to take her senior pictures and I was thrilled!!! She was one of my first ECU seniors before my business really started to take off. Two years later, I’m taking romantic and fun couple’s pictures for these two cuties who found their new home in Wilmington, NC. Finding and living in a location that you love, with the person you love, with jobs and people who give you happiness- that’s something to celebrate! Love this couple and love this Fall shoot!!

Beachside Couples Session

EEEEE… just look at these two!!!! They literally RADIATE with love, you guys!!! We had been trying to get together on this shoot for months. We finally found a weekend that worked and of course, the weather looked terrible. The day we planned to meet up was gloomy, windy, and no sunshine in sight! Sure enough, the sun came out of nowhere and I was SO excited!!!! I absolutely loved this session with Emily and Chris- you can feel the love through their smiles, in their eyes, and in every way they held each other. When I attend their wedding next year, I am going to lose it- packing tissues for sure. Love these two humans and I hope you love their images as much as I do!
