On the most peaceful early August morning, I photographed an unforgettable Rhode Island sailboat engagement session! What Emily thought was just a couple’s photoshoot ended up being her own perfect proposal. She knew I was traveling to Rhode Island for their session, but she didn’t know her then-boyfriend had been sneakily preparing to get down on one knee during pictures.
Shortly after starting with portraits on the dock, Cam quickly popped the question; he couldn’t wait any longer! I loved capturing their genuine joy and sweet love as he carefully slipped the ring on her finger. The way they held each other close afterward was the sweetest thing ever.
From the dock, we moved to a park nearby with a gorgeous stone bridge over the calm waters and walking trails hugging the coastline. Passing boats and flying seagull photobombs made the photos all the more New England-esque.
After an outfit change, we headed aboard the picturesque sailboat for more pretty portraits! The sailboat was like something out of a movie, and their classy blue and white outfits complemented the sails so well.
The funniest part of the whole shoot is what you don’t see – what was happening on the other side of the camera. Picture this: me and my driver, riding in the world’s smallest dinghy, wearing neon life jackets, circling the sailboat to get all the best angles. The behind-the-scenes footage is hysterical; it made it all the more memorable and definitely helped to get the couple giggling for photos! This all just goes to show: I WILL do anything for the shot.
It’s not often a couple flies me to another state for a proposal- I will always consider this one of the most special days of my career, it was a dream. Now I’m ready to book my next sailboat engagement session! Cam and Emily – you’re the best, I just adore your relationship and love for one another. Thank you for this amazing experience!
